Whitikahu school and community


Whitikahu is a full state primary school with a decile rating of 9. It is situated in a rural environment 26 kilometres north-east ofHamiltoncity.



The school at Whitikahu was established in 1912 as a sole charge school. It is celebrating it's centennary in March 2012.

In 2016 there are four classes operating, all classes are multi level. The Principal is  able to release teachers for testing and attending courses.

The buildings have recently undergone extension and replacement. The main building consists of a block of three classrooms- two of which have the facility to be opened up as an extended teaching space / dual classroom. This block also includes the administrative area including a separate interview room and teachers work space. The next block consists of a multi purpose room and a classroom.

A separate small room is adjacent to the school and is available for withdrawal for special needs  and / or small group instruction.

The library is located at the back of the school and contains an area for small group teaching.

The recreation and sporting interests of the children are well catered for with two concrete courts ( one for netball and one multi- purpose court- padder tennis and basketball); a large rugby field; two adventure playgrounds and a swimming pool.

The school is well equipped with a number of ipads and laptops. The school has a wide range of ICT equipment including a large number of cameras, video cameras,  a digital microscope and  data projectors.
