Te Reo Maori/Kapa Haka
Whitikahu School students develop an appreciation and understanding of the significance of Tikanga Maori.
Each of our classes participate in a very dynamic Kapa Haka programme. Our students learn and perform various waiata, haka, and cultural traditions through the support of our awesome Kapa Haka tutor.
Wai Ako is being developed in our Junior and Senior schools to promote the Te Reo Maori curriculum. Wai Ako means Learning Songs. The programme uses catchy music videos to get the children singing the basic phrases of the curriculum. It also promotes learning pronunciation, phrase structure, and vocabulary. With the support of Wai Ako we are more confident to use Te Reo on a daily basis in our classrooms and around our school.
